Day Nine

The theme for Becky’s  April Squares challenge is ‘top’

Social distancing on top of Trencrom Hill. I have never seen so many people up on ‘my ‘ hill in the four years I have lived here. So for now, we are remaining at the bottom.

Due to inflation the Zimbabwean dollar was pretty worthless and the favoured currency was the US dollar. When I was visiting Zim in 2000 the hawkers were happy to take anything for a sale other than the Zim dollar. Including my rather worthless watch!

The Zimbawean is an English-speaking free newspaper. Since it was established in 2005 The Zimbabwean (TZ) has been a torch-bearer in the face of overwhelming state propaganda and a news blackout on state-sponsored terrorism, corruption and human rights abuses. Its strapline is A Voice for the Voiceless

April Squares | Day Eight

Simplicity

We are living through a very strange period in our lives. One that affects us all. No matter where we live or who we are. A time when we are isolated like as never before. When life is reduced to the simple pleasures. Uncomplicated. Free from excesses and distractions.

Patti’s challenge got me thinking about what this means to me. I live at the best of times in isolation, although I don’t live on my own, but I enjoy my own company and I am never bored even though it would seem to others that I do nothing.

It’s not that I am anti-social, I am just very self-contained. And I have the time to enjoy the simple things in life and appreciate what is around me.

Preferably in the natural world. Trees, water, rocks, views. Although I can and do enjoy a city visit now and then as long as I can find a peaceful place to recharge my batteries. And not just those of the camera.

I don’t need much in life. I am happiest when wandering somewhere, anywhere, where I can disappear unnoticed with my camera in hand.

One of the LSBs (little brown birds). The dunnock is a small bird, about the size of a robin, which is common in gardens, parks, hedgerows, scrub and along woodland edges. Dunnocks are shy birds, hopping about in low vegetation and around the edge of lawns, feeding on small insects, worms and seeds.

Rocking stones (also known as logan stones or logans) are large stones that are so finely balanced that the application of just a small force causes them to rock. This one sits on top of Trencrom Hill. I’m not sure that this one actually does rock, but it is definitely precariously balanced.

There is a more famous one near Treen, Porthcurno.
