Venetian Masks

I’m not a wearer of masks, but couldn’t help being attracted to these beautiful carnival masks in Venice. I quite fancy the blue one below and regret not buying it or maybe the bird mask. Pop over to Ailsa to unmask more interpretations.

St Mark’s Basilica, Venice
Cee’s Black & White Challenge: This black and white challenge is topic related and this week the theme is Man-Made.

St Mark’s Basilica dominates Piazza San Marco. It is an example of Byzantine Gothic architecture with lavish mosaics. The four bronze horses were captured from Constantinople.
Travel Theme: DRY
Ailsa of “Where’s My Backpack?” is fed up with all the rain (and I think many people in the UK will go along with her sentiments) so is looking for some DRY photos in this week’s theme. If you would like to join in with her challenge then please do. Everyone is welcome.

Lost in Venice
I have always yearned to visit Venice, the city that is sinking and often stinking, but which is unique – a sanctuary on a lagoon that is virtually unchanged for six hundred years and a monument to the glory days of the Renaissance. On a trip to Lake Bled in Slovenia in 2012 my husband and I were close enough to go there on a day trip – a long drive, but easier by a coach tour than trying to do it by public transport.
