Starling
The Starling (Sturnus Vulgaris) is one of the most common birds in Britain and is more colourful than you think. The plumage is shiny black, glossed purple or green, and spangled with white, particularly strongly so in winter.
California dreaming

Walking along the shoreline in San Diego I was virtually swamped by an explosion of colour – first these vibrant vending machines offering me a multitude of free advertising leaflets and then a stall full of colourful ceramic fishes.

I was definitely getting into the carnival spirit
and by the time I reached the kites down at Seaport Village
my energy levels were rising
and I was feeling very happy. After all it was February and here I was walking in sunny California 🙂

Monthly Photo Challenge: Frosty January
I was beginning to think I would never get any frost or snow photos of Ludlow. The last time I saw a really hard hoar-frost was several years ago. Then on Wednesday I awoke to a beautiful softly coloured sunrise – and frost!
Not only was there a hard frost, but also fog diffusing light. An ideal time to grab the camera and wander down by the river.

Excited by the thought that I might find some rime ice on leaves and trees I first went down to the river by the Mill Weir, where I hoped to get a view of the river and the trees along the Breadwalk.
